A NIGHT AT THE LARGO

"...The Largo Pub is a great place to see a show...it was perfect."

Friday morning, I'm in hell. Helping people with their computer problems is a sorry way to earn a paycheck. It's a long week at the end of a long month and the torture of answering dumb questions.

Friday night, I'm in heaven. Out to see Evan Dando at Largo on Fairfax. The Lemonheads have been my favorite band for the last eight years. The first time I heard "Hate Your Friends" I knew that the best punk, the best music for that matter, didn't take itself too seriously.

The Largo Pub is a great place to see a show. Small, uncrowded, good acoustics. It was perfect. Mr. Dando played all the songs I would have hoped for: from "drug buddy" to "into your arms" to a cover of an old Eugene Kelly song, which he sung a cappella. He played several of his new songs too, and we loved them. His voice was strong and beautiful and it was a blissful experience. (The Pasta Largo and the bruscetta are thoroughly enjoyable too.)

Jon Brion (most noted for his work with Fionna Apple)
played next. Brion played every instrument on the stage by himself, recording and looping his performance on each instrument.

I couldn't have hoped for a better night.
